The Harris Center is looking for an experienced Forensic Psychologist to join our team providing Mental Health services at Harris County Jail

About the Position

The Forensic Psychologist at The Harris Center operates under the direction of the Lead Forensic Psychologist for the Competency and Sanity Evaluation Unit. You will conduct forensic psychological evaluations of defendants under court orders in order to provide expert opinions to Harris County criminal courts regarding individuals' competency to stand trial. The Forensic Psychologist also consults with attorneys and court officials in addition to providing testimony in criminal legal proceedings when called upon.

About the Forensic Services Division

The Forensic Services Division of The Harris Center provides services to meet the needs of children, adolescents, and adults with criminal justice involvement in the community and in supervised settings. The division focuses on the effective assessment, treatment and management of criminal justice involved patients, both in the community and in secure settings. We work in partnership with local and state criminal justice agencies to provide mental health services to inmates in Harris County Jail and to individuals on probation or parole.

Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) or equivalent
  • Licensed Psychologist in the state of Texas
  • Board Certification by the American Board of Professional Psychology as a Forensic Psychologist
  • If not Board Certified:
    • 24 hours of specialized forensic training related to incompetency or insanity evaluations
    • 5 years of experience performing criminal forensic evaluations
